Grocery Store Sustainability with ALDI

Navigating the grocery store can be challenging. So I’m partnering with ALDI to highlight ways to enhance sustainability during your grocery shopping experience.

When I head to the grocery store, my goal is to maximize on time and efficiency while saving money. It’s important for me to go in with a plan, utilizing a meal prep list that aims to use all ingredients while preventing boredom.

Below are 5 ways I strive for in-store sustainability.

  • Choose your grocery store wisely
    • Do your store’s tenets and goals align with your own? ALDI has always been a store with a mission. They’ve reduced the use of plastic and increased the recyclability of packaging. More than 62% of ALDI-exclusive packaging is now reusable, recyclable or compostable!
  • Re-use items on your list
    • Those blueberries? Have them as a snack with some pistachios, toss them in a smoothie or on top of overnight oats, freeze them with some chocolate for a tasty bark! This helps prevent food waste. ALDI is similarly committed to this with a goal to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.
  • Bring your own bags
    • Having ALDI Reusable Sandwich Bags and Reusable Produce Bag Set are the best! They’re cute and can be repurposed in so many ways. I love bringing them to work for snacks and use the produce bags for travel. ALDI also announced a new commitment to eliminate all plastic shopping bags from stores by the end of 2023!
  • Compost at home
    • I’m newer to the compost game and I love that ALDI is encouraging consumers to consider it. I picked up my countertop compost bin at ALDI and love it!
  • Don’t overbuy perishables, grab some canned/frozen items too
    • Contrary to popular belief, canned/frozen items are just as nutritionally dense as fresh items. Having my pantry and freezer stocked means I can make a quick and nourishing meal at the end of the week when I’ve utilized all my fresh items. It’s a great opportunity to be creative in the kitchen, while simultaneously avoiding food waste!
